Sonny Flowers
Congregational Care Pastor
When River Oaks began in 1999, Sonny Flowers established its youth ministry. Over the years, he has led numerous young people on short-term mission trips not only to various places within the States, but also to other to places such as Jamaica, Kenya, and Argentina. He has since become our Congregational Care Pastor, overseeing hospital visits, prayer teams, marriage ministry, compassion ministry, and long-term care. Sonny is a servant’s servant. He will not ask you to do anything he is not willing to do himself. Sonny is a “roll-up-your-sleeves-and-get-the-job-done” person. Is there a need? Not only does he want to meet it, but he will go the extra mile to do so. In fact, if we tried, it is likely that we would be unable to count those “extra miles.”
Sonny grew up in Winston-Salem, NC. He married his best friend, Trish, in 1983, and they have two grown children, Sunnie Leigh and Trey. Sonny earned his Master of Arts in both Theological Studies and Divinity Pastoral Leadership at Carolina Evangelical Divinity School. In his downtime, you might find Sonny golfing, fishing, or hunting.
