River Oaks Community Church is led by a Session, comprised of both Teaching and Ruling Elders. The Session provides spiritual oversight on all church matters. They ensure the ministry of evangelism remains the top priority of the church, that the church is organized for the advancement of the gospel, and that the staff, ministries, and team leaders are implementing River Oaks’ mission to reach, build, and send disciples of Jesus Christ.
Our Teaching Elders are Pastors David Beaty, Sonny Flowers, and Andrew Wild. Our Ruling Elders are elected by the members of the church to watch over the spiritual welfare of the congregation. They minister alongside our Teaching Elders in receiving members, encouraging people in their spiritual development, and caring for those they serve. As a representative of the people, the first duty of a Ruling Elder is to represent the mind of Christ.
The following individuals are currently serving as Ruling Elders:
Charlie and his wife, Ann, have been members of River Oaks since 2009. They have served as Small Group leaders and participated in both the Summer Block Party and in a short-term mission trip to Jamaica. Charlie and Ann were instrumental in the development of—and now lead—our Young Adult Ministry.
Frank Carter has been a member of River Oaks since we began in 1999 and he has served on the Session before. He has worked closely with the Administrative Team and has invested many hours in the ministry of our Presbytery. Frank and his wife, Kit, have an adult daughter. They currently lead a small group at the church.
Jeff and his wife, Heather, have been with River Oaks since our first year and have a daughter, Lexi, (3). Jeff has participated in our Summer Block Parties, Noah’s Ark, prayer, and usher ministries. Jeff has spent many hours working on technology for our church and participated in a short-term mission trip to Northern India. Jeff and Heather are also active in the River Oaks Small Groups and Marriage Matters ministry.
Don and his wife, Karen, have three children, Dean (17), Jenny (14), and Matt (12). They have been members since 2007. Don has served as a Small Group leader for most of the past three years; in fact, he wrote the Small Group studies on the Books of James and 1 and 2 Peter. He has also participated in the Men’s Ministry and served during the Summer Block Party.
Dan and his wife, Sheila, have two children, Roark (14) and Alex (11). They have been members since 2001. They serve together in Kids ROCC, lead a Small Group, and serve in outreach ministries. Dan was a leader in our BUILD studies, served on our Capital Campaign leadership team, and leads our Administration Team.
Ken and his wife, Lori, have been part of River Oaks since 2000 and have two adult sons, Michael and Steven. Ken has served as the Ministry Team Leader for our Usher Ministry for several years. He and Lori lead a Small Group in their home. Ken was instrumental in the planning and building of our facility while serving on the ROCC Building Team.
