Homeless Count and Outreach

As is part of the ten year plan to end chronic homelessness volunteers search throughout our community for those who do not have a roof. They count them and provide a care package including a Bible, socks, t-shirts, food, water and a list of resource contacts. The count helps Forsyth County receive a little more money from Federal and State government sources.
Twice a year River Oaks joins with others who reach out to our homeless community in the nationwide homeless count.

In December River Oaks collects Christmas presents for needy children, many children who would not get much of a present without our efforts. We have provided presents for children of inmates in our counties correctional facilities and other children living in desperate situations.

We have a group of members who take a sign out to our public parks and other outreach opportunities. The sign says “Prayer Station, Do you need prayer?” We have seen many people take advantage of this opportunity. Often an opportunity to share our faith arises and we have seen the Holy Spirit draw many into the faith.
